02Context

The field, in plain terms

Arma is a long-running series of military simulation games made by Bohemia Interactive, a Czech studio founded in 1999. Its titles are unusual in that the publisher deliberately opens the game’s development tools to outside developers, and has done so for over twenty years.

Work made with those tools — new weapons, vehicles, terrain, uniforms and game systems — is known as a modification, or mod. Building one to a releasable standard involves 3D modelling, texturing, animation, audio, scripting and localisation, and at any scale it requires a team.

Most of that work is unpaid and voluntary. A subset is not: the publisher licenses selected independent teams to build and sell commercial expansions on Steam. S.O.G. Prairie Fire, credited below, is one such title.

03Record

Twenty years of practice

The work has been continuous across four generations of the same engine family, which is the relevant point: the technical knowledge is cumulative and the professional network is long-standing.

ARMA-RY

Cold War firearms pack

A modular pack of Cold War-era firearms chosen to sit alongside the base game’s period and setting, spanning Eastern and Western service weapons and their variants. Each is authored end to end — models, textures, animation, audio integration and localisation — and released under a custom licence governing third-party reuse.

Role: team lead — content selection, production standards, licensing, and a substantial share of the authoring work. Scale: over 500,000 downloads. Standing: now used as a dependency by other independent development teams building on the same game.
